Hi there, I’m Marita.
I’m a naturally curious person who has always been drawn to people’s stories and seeking to understand how their life experiences have shaped them as people. My focus is to help you to feel at ease and for your experience of therapy to bring a sense of acceptance and validation in your life. I am passionate about creating an authentic, meaningful connection with you and offering you a safe space for reflection, expression and healing.
My counselling style is quite relaxed and person-led, but it is purposeful, where I will weave psychological strategies into our conversations. Counselling with me will feel natural and conversational, and I will support you to process your thoughts and feelings in the safety of our therapeutic relationship. I am warm, caring and intuitive and will provide a space to nurture your strengths and create meaningful change in your life.
I work from an integrative therapeutic framework, where I use a mix of evidence-based and person-centred therapies. I use a holistic, strengths-based approach with each person I work with and employ a biopsychosocial model, in which I strive to understand each person as a whole. My counselling style draws from trauma-informed therapy, attachment theory and I work from a family systems lens. This means that I consider the intricate and deep patterns within families, which informs my work and assists me to be sensitive to each individual’s needs within their families and in their significant relationships.
I am particularly passionate about working with people who have been impacted by trauma and have worked extensively with survivors of sexual assault, physical and emotional abuse and neglect.
I enjoy working with adolescents, young people, adults, parents and families. Some of the areas I am passionate about include:
Sexual assault and abuse counselling
Trauma, complex trauma (PTSD and cPTSD) and attachment
Self-empowerment - identity, self-esteem and self-confidence
Anxiety and depression
Boundaries and assertiveness
Adjustment and life transitions
Chronic health conditions
Adolescent and young adult experiences
Sexuality
Grief and loss
Self-harm and suicidal ideation
Anger and aggression
Sexualised behaviour in children and harmful sexual behaviour in adolescents
It is an honour and a privilege to work with people discovering strength in their vulnerability and achieving clarity and insight through the power of therapy. I look forward to working with you.
