Hello, I’m Tyne,

As a therapist, I am empathic, self-aware and self-reflective, working from a person-centred, and relationship- focused framework. Within my sessions, I aim for a natural, warm, and kind approach to assist my clients to feel a sense of safety in order to explore, process, and share in their experiences.

I view the process of building healthy and helpful relationships with my clients as a fundamental aspect of my role. Each individual person brings with them a unique set of skills and knowledge that they can use to help themselves, and therefore I see individuals as the expert of their own lives. My role in the therapy process is to be a gentle guide and facilitator to help people to work towards their own goals and healing. I possess  a holistic approach as a therapist and consider all aspects of wellbeing, which means looking at what is going on in all parts of life and the Self.  I can be dynamic and solutions-focused in my style when needed, where we can collaboratively look at what is working or not working in your life, then moving at your pace to develop realistic steps to get to where you would like to be.

I am deeply compassionate about creative modalities, which is why I trained as an art therapist and have further training in play therapy. Sometimes it can be hard to verbally express what is happening for us, especially for children and young people, which is where art and play can be a helpful tool with communicating and processing stories/trauma/life experiences.

Art therapy can be for everyone, no matter your age or stage of life. I believe we can all be creative, it is just a matter of finding what that looks like for each individual person. In art therapy we use art to express, process and regulate our internal world as well as our feelings/emotions. It is not about how the art looks as we focus on the process of doing the art rather than the outcome of the art piece.

Non-directive play therapy is a powerful tool for healing where a therapist can assist the young person to access verbal emotional language (consciousness) to describe and process their internal world (unconscious parts of themselves). I also use talk therapies with my clients and I am particularly drawn on psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy and skill development. I like to be responsive to an individual by providing an approach that works for them and fits their needs.

I have worked across a number of different areas particularly with young people and families, but I enjoy working with all people, no matter the age or what concern/s they are experiencing. Most recently I worked in the Northern Territory in mental health and disabilities, which I loved, but I am excited to be back home and in the Queensland weather.

My interest areas include:

  • Children and young people

  • Stress

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Low self-esteem/self-worth

  • Childhood trauma

  • Family breakdowns

  • Resilience

  • Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

Outside of being a therapist, I am a mother. I love spending time with my little ones and enjoy, running, yoga, creating art and swimming. I am so glad you have taken this brave step to engage in therapy.
